Red Plate Monday Ride report 06-05-24.
A lovely crisp Autumn morning greeted the club members who gathered at the Barrabool Road meeting point, buzzing with anticipation for their Red Plate Ride.
This week, a diverse group of five cars and twelve motorbikes turned up, creating a great blend of four and two-wheeled machines.
With the Autumn sun getting higher, the group set off on their journey, leaving the urban landscape behind and heading out into the Western District, with their well maintained vehicles running beautifully.
Their final destination was the Birregurra General Store, a charming pit stop where they could refuel with delicious coffee and indulge in decadent treats. The cool morning air gradually transformed into a lovely day, providing ideal conditions for a leisurely riding & driving.
The diverse mix of vehicles added to the uniqueness of the ride while showcasing the owners passions for their four and two-wheeled machines.
If you’re a SMCC member and are looking for a great ½ day out for yourself & your red plate machine, come along every Monday morning, hope to see you there.
Club Economy Trial 28-04-24
Today’s Sporting Motorcycle Club ride was an exciting and challenging Economy Trial where 19 riders put their skills and machines to the test. The goal was to determine who had the most fuel-efficient bike and who would be crowned the “Gas Guzzler.”
The ride took the group on a scenic journey through the Golden Plains, with picturesque stops at Ceres, Steiglitz, Batesford, Sutherlands Creek, Stony Creek Reservoir, and HM Prison. These stops provided opportunities for riders to take photos to prove they followed the correct route & also giving them a chance to admire the stunning scenery.
The highlight of the event was the competition for the most economical bike trophy.
Dave emerged victorious in the under 700cc class with his Honda XL350, demonstrating impressive fuel efficiency. In the over 700cc class, while Mark Rigby took the top spot with his BMW GS 800, showcasing the bike’s ability to balance power and fuel efficiency.
In contrast, Guy’s Honda CBR1000F earned him the “Gas Guzzler” award trophy in the over 700cc class. While it may not have been the most fuel-efficient bike, it definitely was one of the quickest, with Guy turning on the afterburner coming out of just about every corner.
The ride concluded back at the clubrooms where riders enjoyed a well prepared BBQ.
Missing in action was Beak on his tiny road bike, arriving back at the club rooms an hour or so after the main group., Beak taking a wrong turn at Albuquerque and almost going half way to Ballarat before turning around.
Thanks to everyone involved today, special thanks to Mal for organising the route & Guy for organising the BBQ lunch.
Monday Red Plate Report 08-04-24
Prepared by Wayne Berry, thanks Wayne.
Today’s red plate ride was well attended with 16 riders participating.
We left along Barrabool Road under blue skies which turned to grey clouds as we progressed out into the countryside via Pollocksford towards Inverleigh then turned off passing through Teesdale with Mal Loone navigating his way to Cafe Le Hoot in Winchelsea.
Get in quick with the coffee and pie order to avoid the queue and then some good banter with fellow enthusiasts.
With black clouds looming the time has come to leave and hopefully stay ahead of the rain unlike last week.
