Red Plate Monday Ride Report – 17-06-24.
On a crisp and clear Monday morning, The Sporting Motorcycle Club embarked on their Red Plate ride, with a chilly start but the promise of a warm and sunny day ahead. The destination was Anglesea General Store, a beloved spot for riders and locals alike.
As the group of 14 riders gathered at the regular meeting point, a Ride leader was picked, with a classic Cafe racer CB750 four, a true beauty that turned heads wherever it went. The tail was held by the trusty Magoo and his wife Deb, in their iconic red plate car.
The ride began with a smooth and steady pace, as the riders enjoyed the scenic countryside. The route was meticulously planned, ensuring a mix of challenging curves and straights to keep the ride interesting and engaging and the cornering system working perfectly (this time).
As the morning progressed, the sun began to warm things up, casting a golden glow on the landscape. The riders made their way down through Freshwater Creek and on towards the breathtaking coastline.
The destination, Anglesea General Store, was a welcome sight, offering a chance for the riders to rest and warm up with a hot coffee & sweet treat.
After a relaxing break, it was time for the members to go their own way back into Geelong. The riders bid farewell to Anglesea and set off.
As always the Red Plate Monday Ride was a testament to the enduring love for motorcycling and the spirit of adventure that binds the SMCC Members together.
If you’re a member and your Red Plate Machine is collecting Dust, pump up the tyres, check the oil and meet at the Barrabool Rd meeting point every Monday morning at 9:00am for a 9:30am departure.
Red Plate Monday Ride Report – 10-06-24.
On a beautiful Monday morning, 10th of June 2024, the Sporting Motorcycle Club embarked on its iconic “Red Plate Monday Ride.” Approximately 20 eager riders, astride their trusty motorcycles, gathered at the designated meeting point, ready for an exhilarating adventure.
Guy (a skilled and experienced rider) took the lead with a predetermined route set firmly in his mind, while Doug in his Nissan 300z, acted as the tail vehicle, a crucial part of the cornering systems used on the Monday rides.
The ride commenced with a scenic route through the picturesque town of Ceres, followed by a thrilling ride along Barrabool Road, which eventually led to the Princess Highway.
As they approached Geelong, the riders made a left turn and exited the freeway at Hamilton Highway. From there, they turned right towards Gheringhap.
Seven riders diligently followed the planned route, but a twist awaited them. After waiting for 20 minutes at their designated corner, they realised that the rest of the group had taken a different path.
Unbeknown to them, the majority of the riders had decided to go “rogue” and headed towards Ceres (possibly via Andersons Rd) to the Anakie shop.
As the remaining seven riders stood there, puzzled and uncertain, they made the decision to continue on their original course. With Guy leading the way and Doug providing support from behind, they pressed forward, determined to make the most of their ride.
The journey unfolded with a mix of winding roads, sweeping bends, and breathtaking landscapes. The riders navigated through the picturesque countryside, enjoying the freedom and exhilaration of riding their motorcycles (and driving their z car!) in the open air.
Finally, after a thrilling ride, they arrived at their destination – The Anakie General Store. There, they were greeted by the rest of the group, who had arrived some 20 minutes earlier and already settled in and were enjoying refreshments.
Despite the unexpected detour by 3/4 of the group, the SMCC Red Plate Monday Ride was another resounding success, thanks to everyone who came along, Thanks to Guy & Doug for guiding the group so well. ![]()
Hope to see you next Monday !
