Red Plate Monday Ride Report – 29-07-24
Is there nothing that will deter the SMCC Red plate Monday riders, this morning with the threat of Cold & wet conditions 10 Riders turned up keen as ever to hit the road.
Lenny, eager to show off the latest addition to his Lara stables, stepped forward to lead the ride on his new Italian Stallion.
The tail riders this week were Mal & Ross, making sure no riders were left behind.
After a brief discussion prior to leaving it was decided that the destination today would be the Birregurra General Store for coffee and treats.
Heading out through Ceres and the Barrabool Hills conditions looked favourable with the sun breaking through lighting up the lush green winter paddocks.
Continuing along Barrabool Rd and crossing the Princes Highway, then along Considines Rd before turning onto Cape Otway Rd at Modewarre and heading towards Deans Marsh.
As Lenny led the group higher into the Otways conditions slowly changed for the worse, riding through misty fog at Bambra making the riders wish for windscreen wipers.
But once they turned onto Rifle Butts Rd and started to descend conditions improved rapidly.
When arriving at the Birregurra General Store they weren’t just greeted by hot coffee & sweet treats, they were also greeted by nice blue skies and sunshine which helped them to defrost.
Thanks to everyone that came along today, thanks to Lenny for leading, The duke past the test with flying (yellow) colours, Thanks to Mal and Ross for being tail riders, and big thanks to the Birregurra General Store for selling me one of the best Vanilla slices I’ve ever had.
Red Plate Monday Ride Report – 22-07-24
With Spring like conditions this morning a group of 21 Club members met at the regular Barrabool Rd Meeting point.
With Mal volunteering to lead the ride and giving the route low down prior to departure.
Also prior to departure the opportunity was taken for the ceremonial awarding of the “Pig’s Ear Award”, the worthy recipient was Guy who warmly received the award due to his prior indiscretions while being the Red Plate Monday lead rider.
The group departed promptly and ventured out of town via Breakwater, Whittington, Moolap, Leopold, Mannerim, Swan Bay Rd, and then straight on into Queenscliff and the final destination “Rolling Pin Pies & Cakes”.
The group soaking up some vitamin D in the warm sunshine out the front of the Rolling Pin while enjoying some of the freshly cooked cakes & pies.
Another very successful and enjoyable ride, very relaxing & really reminds me how lucky we are to live in our neck of the woods & be members of such a great club.
Hope to see you next Monday on the SMCC Red Plate Ride.
Red Plate Monday Ride Report – 15-07-24
The weather on Monday was cold and wet but that didn’t deter a group of die-hard SMCC members from attending the weekly red plate Monday ride, Destination Anakie General Store.
Putting his previous performance as the lead rider behind him Guy got the job to lead while the ever reliable Ross Johnston rode tail.
The group left the meeting place and headed to the Ceres to regroup where Guy was informed that his rear tyre was half flat! And losing pressure fast.
Mr reliable Wayne Berry stepped up to take over the lead, Ross Johnston took Guy to his nearby home at Ceres to inflate the offending tyre . But they soon discovered the valve stem was the cause of the leak.
Guy feeling the pressure of his previous indiscretion while the lead rider went directly home and picked up a spare bike and got to the Anakie General Store in time to enjoy a warm beverage and sweet treats all round with his fellow riders.
Could be the “Pigs Ear Award” coming his way for this one? but at least he wasn’t a DNF.
Well done to everyone who attended, great commitment to all, and to Guy for not pulling the pin.👍
