Phil & Grossy Road and Ride Report 2024
What a Fantastic Day!
The Phil & Grossy Road and Bush ride was another great success today.
With about 25 Members meeting at the Clubrooms, with the group growing to over 30 by picking up members along the route.
Likewise about 20 Dirt riders riding at Enfield.
Jim lead the Road ride out towards Deans Marsh, skirting around the edge of Otways, before turning onto Riflebuts Rd on into Birregurra for a coffee (& Vanilla Slice) stop at the Birregurra General Store.
Then on into Colac for a quick refuel, then out through Cororooke, Coragulac, Alvie, Dreeite, Cressy, Rokewood, Corindhap, Dereel, Enfield and finally meeting up with the Bush Group who had been enjoying almost perfect riding condition and an ideally set route prepared by Phil & Grossy.
Both Groups then enjoyed a feed from the OTR BBQ Trailer, With Grossy manning the tongs and dispensing snags at a frantic rate.
Then to put the icing on the cake, Wendy pulled out an almost endless tray of beautifully made Scones, Jam & Cream served with steaming hot coffee.
I overheard members remarking, this is how its done when you ride with the SMCC, a group of Motorcycle riders enjoying Scones, Jam & Cream on a bush ride in the middle of nowhere!.
Big thanks to Phil & Grossy for organising a fantastic Day, Thanks to Wendy for you amazing Scones & Hot coffees, Thanks to Jim Van Sluijs for leading the Road Ride.
And thanks to all members who joined in today, making the Day another great success.

Red Plate Monday Ride Report – 09-09-24
A coolish morning greeted a group of 15 SMCC members keen for this week’s Monday Red Plate ride.
Meeting up in Barrabool Rd for a prompt 9:30am departure, Mark put his hand up to lead the ride with Doug volunteering to be the tail rider, with this week’s destination being the Anakie General Store.
Heading out through Highton Valley and up Barrabool road and regrouping just outside of Ceres, through the curves of Merrawarp Rd, cross the Hamilton Highway to Friend in Hand Rd / Dog Rocks Rd and into Batesford.
Turning off the Midland Highway onto Geelong – Ballan Rd before turning left onto Steiglitz Rd.
As the group climbed the hills on the far side of Maude a small amount of drizzle started, making for interesting conditions.
Mark then directed the group onto De Motts Rd towards Anakie, while a small group wanting a bit more of a challenge continued straight down the greasy and unsealed Butchers Rd requiring the riders to use their legs like outriggers on a polynesian canoe.
Both groups arrived at similar times at the Anakie General Store.
After a noticeable absence from riding it was great to see Wayne back in the saddle today, dragging his GPX out of the shed this morning, only to have an electrical issue as he hit the outskirts of Anakie.
With the assistance of a friendly Anakie resident who got Wayne’s GPX fired up again with a “Packer Wacker”, He decided to forgo the coffee and head straight back home to investigate the electrical issue.
After an extended stop at the Anakie General store to Dry out, warm up and enjoy a nice hot coffee the group departed Anakie and made their own way back home.
Thanks to all those who braved the conditions this morning, specially thanks Mark for leading the ride today, and Thanks to Doug for being the tail rider.
Hope to see you next Monday for the next SMCC Red Plate Monday Ride.
