Another great meeting last night with good number of members attending.

We had our Lucky Member door prize with Andrew Skene having his number drawn, unfortunately Andrew wasn’t present so the prize jackpots to next meeting – now sitting at $30. So Don’t miss the next meeting (08/08/23) for your chance to collect.

We also had Mark kick off a new addition to the meetings called the Members Show ‘N’ Tell were a member puts their hand up to bring along a bike / car or other to Show the meeting & tell the story behind their treasures, Mark set a pretty high bar with his 2000 Honda VTR1000 SP1, but I’m sure we’ll be in for some interesting machines to be presented, come along to meetings for an up close and personal on them..

At this meeting Mark brought along his 2000 Honda VTR-1000 SP1, which as you can see here is in incredible condition with 46,000km on the ODO, but the icing on the cake is that Mark has the original box that it was delivered to Australia in ! Amazing.

The Bike was originally shipped to Sydney, then Canberra before being sold to 1st owner in Horsham, were it was looked after like a family member, being garaged in the owners lounge room.

The bike has some unique design points including side mounted radiators which allowed the engine to sit forward in the frame, a front on ram air intake which ducts the air around headstock and frame then into the airbox, gear driven cams, dual 310mm discs up front and a single 220mm disc in the rear.

Powered by a 1000cc 90-degree V-twin engine that produces about 130 horsepower and delivered to the back wheel through a 6 speed close range gearbox.

The SP1 was designed to compete in the World Superbike Championship and won in 2000 and 2002, Also in 2000 Joey Dunlop won the Formula 1 race at the Isle of Man on the Honda SP1.

Thanks to the group of hardy riders that braved the elements today and ventured out through the picturesque countryside to “Jack’s Shed” where they gathered around the fire, the urn & BBQ to defrost and dried out enough to get photos of there pride and joy in this unique backdrop.

We have two club members who are currently on the Isle of Man for the TT, here are are handful of Pictures and Videos from them. Looks like they are having a great time.

Hi Everyone, tomorrow is the 4th Sunday of the month which means we’ll be having a club ride, meet at 0900am at the clubrooms in Newtown, 0930am depart (home by around lunchtime). Allan Walker recently led our Monday red plate ride to Lara for Coffee (via Bannockburn !) and everyone involved gave rave reports. So Al is going to repeat the ride tomorrow for those of us that missed out, It won’t be fast or long, but sure to be good fun and show us some roads we may have never seen before, the weather is looking good. Hope to see you there, spread the word, all members and vehicles are invited.

Hi all, I will be taking a break for a few weeks, and in the meantime our other Accredited Inspector, Rob Cleary, will be in control of all the initial inspections and necessary paperwork. Great ride today to The Old Workshop Cafe at Anakie with 12 riders attending where we were warmly welcomed by the owners and treated to great food and coffee by their ever polite and efficient staff. A good eclectic mix of bikes attended including moderns and oldies varying from Aermacchi, Moto Guzzi, Ducati, Honda’s, BMW’s, Triumph, Harley D and Yamahas.

The ride took us through Ceres, Pollocksford towards Inverleigh, then via Bannockburn, Russell’s Bridge, Maude to the Bacchus Marsh road then on to Anakie via Granite road. A total ride of approx 135klm’s by the time we arrived back in Geelong.

Smiles all round, corner marshalling worked well with no delays and no one lost.

It was decided at a recent club meeting to transfer the monthly runs from the 2nd Sunday of the month to the 4th Sundays due to clashes with many other special days throughout the year. We already have several Sundays allotted to varying runs this year but we are always looking for fresh input. All runs are listed on the wall calendar in the clubrooms and are always open for discussion. We also encourage our members to put forward any suggestion or notifications of upcoming events we may be able to attend on any other dates throughout the year.

This Sundays run 26/02/2023 will be leaving from the clubrooms in Riversdale rd at 9.30am heading for The Old Workshop at Anakie for a morning coffee or brunch depending on your preference. The run will be approximately 1hr in duration with everyone free to make their way home what ever way they choose afterwards.

All of our monthly runs are open to all members and friends with any vehicles, cars & bikes old or new welcome.

Tragic News – Justin Willman

If you are involved with the motorcycle scene in Geelong you would have heard about the tragic incident at Stonehaven that resulted with death of Justin Willman.

Justin wasn’t just an integral part of the Geelong Motorcycling community being one of the best and most renowned motorcycle mechanics, he was also great mates with so many of us.

When people have spoken to me about Justin they have described him as a top guy & a true gentleman. 

On behalf of the Sporting Motorcycle Club Geelong executive committee & members we pass on our deepest condolences & sympathy to Justin’s Family, friends and to the broader motorcycling community in Geelong for this tragic loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
