1st Meeting of the Month – Tuesday 10/10/23

Hi Current & Prospective club members, a reminder that our next General meeting is Tuesday 10/10/23 at the Newtown Clubrooms at 07:30pm.

Being the 1st meeting of the month our resident gourmet Chef (Bott – Artists impression below) is preparing a special treat, his version of an old classic, tuna casserole, but I’m told Bott’s version has a bit of a twist to it, by adding beans, eggs, corn chips, sounds delicious.

So come along for a good hearty feed, chat with mates and get your membership and club permits processed.

Also the lucky door prize was not claimed at the last meeting, so has jackpotted, you have to be present to collect if your number / name is drawn at random.

Hope to see you there.

Calling all club members!

We need your help prepping the new club rooms for painting!

Don Lum has kindly volunteered to spray paint the inside of the new clubrooms, but needs a hand doing some basic prep work before he gets started.

If you’re free on Friday 29th, please come down to 313 Bellarine St South Geelong (1st Shed on the Right as you enter from Bellarine St) and donate whatever time you can spare.

We’ll be starting at 9am and with many hands we’re sure to bowl it over quickly.

There will be plenty of tasks to keep everyone busy, such as:

* Cleaning and washing walls

* Masking windows

* Levelling any proud nails

* General clean-up

Please bring any cleaning items you have, such as a broom, brush, hammer, scrapers, buckets, sponges, rags etc.

We hope to see you there!

Call out to Members – New Clubrooms reno materials needed.

The new clubroom renovations are coming along well, but we require a couple of items that members may have sitting around taking up space and would be willing to part with to help out the club:-

2 x large pavers for installation of the Air Con Outdoor unit.

Insulation batts, enough to fill about 8²m in an external wall cavity.

If you can help out, please get in touch here, or with Stewy Turner.

We are still a while away from moving into the new rooms, so business as usual at the Newtown rooms, stay tuned 👍, Thanks.

Red plate Monday ride report – 18/09/23

13 riders. A leisurely ride out through Ceres, Bannockburn, Russell’s Bridge, then back to North Geelong, coffee and treats at The Pickers Union

Two breakdowns on the way, Mal’s lovely specimen of a BMW that needed it’s carbie drain & plug tighten up, Luckily that BMW’S come with a large tool kit!

Ross was not able to continue on the ride on his 350 Norton as it started to nip up a bit coming out of the Barrabool Hills, He turned around and headed for home.

12-09-23 Meeting report

Great Meeting last night, excellent member turn out.

Thanks Bott for a great meal, Thanks Boardy for filling in for Beak.

Thanks to those members that brought along paint for the new clubrooms, much appreciated.

And Thanks to Ross Johnson for bringing along his amazing Royal Enfield Flying Flea WD/RE 125, a very unique bike that was used in WWII and dropped out of RAF aircraft for Allied infantrymen & field messengers to use, some notes about the bike:-

Bike was built in 1948, 125cc 2-Stroke, weighs in at 130 pounds, 100 miles per gallon, 150 miles on a tank of fuel, 35mp/h top speed. will run on very poor quality fuel, 8000 dropped out of bombers during WWII, Sold in Brisbane by Taylors, still has the original plaque on the front mudguard, dropped in a tubular cage, one wingnut, rotate handlebars, push start & away you’d go. (kickstarter added later for civilian use), Sealed tight fuel cap, so the fuel wouldn’t leak if landed on its side. minutes to get it going once it landed, very light so lift out of bogs, Rubber Band front suspension, On D-Day 600 of these bikes were dropped. about 20k of them made all up, and used extensively after the war because of excellent fuel economy & the post war fuel rationing.

Call out to all Members

Call out to all Members,

The renovations of our new clubrooms are coming along nicely THANKS to lots of great work by many different club members.

We understand not everyone can be available to help, so don’t stress, HOWEVER…… here is a way you may be able to help without even leaving your home.

We NEED PAINT!!!

No, we aren’t asking you to come and paint, we just need the actual paint.

Ideally we need around 15 litres of exterior low sheen white or off white, water based acrylic and about 4 litres of undercoat similar to Taubmans 4 in 1 easy prep.

If anyone has anything similar that they are happy to part with, can you please contact the club.

Al Stevenson (Guzzi Al) Memorial Ride Friday, September 1st.

The ride will start at Albert Avenue Aireys Inlet, Stands up at 10am and will head around the Great Ocean Road to Lorne. From there, the ride will head up through the hills to Colac to grab some chips for lunch.

The ride is open to all, and will be a great way to remember Al and his love for his Guzzis and riding. Al was one of the nicest and most genuine people you could ever meet and was a passionate rider who loved nothing more than spending time on his bike.

He was always up for a good ride, and he loved sharing his passion with others. The ride will be a chance for everyone to come together and remember Al in a way that he would have loved. It will be a day of riding, reminiscing, and celebrating Al’s life. I hope to see you there. Please spread the word.
