The next SMCC meeting on 13-02-18 at our clubooms at 45 Riversdale Rd Newtown will kick off with a BBQ start at 6.30pm. Come along for a friendly chat prior to the meeting and find out what’s happening in your club in regard to up coming events and any news or reports of what we have been involved in. If it proves to be successful it may become a regular thing before the 1st meeting of each month.
We are also open to any ideas or suggestions about the future direction you would like to see the club take.
This is a fundraising ride for the Peace of Mind Foundation on 21/01/2018 and we have been invited to participate and support this cause. We received this info prior to the last cub meeting but missed discussing on the night.

Mac Park Mt Gambier 30>31-12-2017. Sa Historic road race championships.
Island Classic 26>28-01-2018 Phillip Island. One of the major classic events of the year, held over the Australia Day Weekend.
Torquay Motor Show 11-02-2018. A Rotary Club community fundraiser on the foreshore. We will be having a Red Plate ride to this event starting from the clubrooms.
On Sunday the 15th September we held our inaugural Biker’s Breakfast. We wanted to have a fundraiser and bring together guys from all walks of motorcycle life, whether it be old bikes, new bikes, Harleys or Jap bikes, race bikes or restored showpieces. The aim was purely to get together and network. Our long term vision is to have this as an annual event, with the proceeds going towards someone needy within the local precinct.
On this day we were very lucky in regards to the weather, as it was the first warm riding day the year. We initially were catering for 50 bikers, but as the event drew closer we realised our numbers were swelling and on the day we had approximately 200 people attending the event, this totally exceeded our expectations. During the course of the morning we spoke to people from as far away as Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Melton, Caulfield, Geelong and Ballarat.
The charity of the day was my son’s science forum that he wanted to attend, 50% of the fee to attend this forum had to be fundraised by the recipient, and Rotary contributed the other 50%. This was a big task for us, as we had to raise about $1500. We were hoping to raise about $600 from the event, but ended up raising the full $1500 (nearly to the dollar). This was achieved by selling bacon & egg sandwiches, sausages, a limited amount of cakes, soft drinks, tea & coffee, as well as holding a raffle. The generosity of some of the attendees in regards to the raffle was astonishing, as we feel a considerable margin of the proceeds came from the raffle. The coffee van didn’t charge a fee to hire his services, he donated 50c per cup of coffee to the cause, which was muchly appreciated.
A big thank you to all the Sporting Motorcycles guys who came along, hopefully we will see more next year.

Thanks to all the members who volunteered their services to fill the necessary positions within the club to enable us to carry on functioning for our members benefit.
Remember this is a club of volunteers and needs the support of all of you members to operate smoothly. It was bit disappointing to see only about 25 members attend for the most important meeting of the year, so now it’s up to all members to support and help those elected into office to perform their roles as easily as possible.

SATURDAY 9/12/2017 at our clubrooms in Riversdale Rd Newtown for a ride and bike show.
We will have 2 rides on the day starting from the clubrooms. The longer ride will commence at 12.00 noon and cover about 200klms before returning to the clubrooms for a bike show refreshments and BBQ. The shorter ride for older or slower bikes and riders will commence at 1.00pm and cover up to 100klms depending on what bikes are going and return to the clubrooms for a bit of refreshment and BBQ.
All members are encouraged to come along and bring their bikes even if not going on either ride. We are hoping to get about 100 bikes on display from about 3.00pm. Even unfinished projects or anything of interest, race bikes, restoration projects or just your pride & joy.
So come along and catch up with old friends or make new ones and help make the day a success.

Perfect weather and a good company, what more could you ask for?
We had 25 riders leave the clubrooms and head for our 1st stop at Barwon Heads for a coffee beside the river mouth. Lots of interested onlookers at the parked up bikes. Then it was a pleasant ride along 13th Beach to the Black Rock facility where we staged a time and distance test, a couple of small snags in running it but we completed the task enough to get a result, some fine tuning needed for the next time. Back onto the bikes for the trip to Torquay for a cool drink and a BBQ on the foreshore. Everyone completed the trip without breakdowns or incident. A big thank you to Jill Loone for driving the backup vehicle and thanks to everyone who chipped in and helped with the BBQ, which by all accounts went off well. a couple of fun awards were made then everyone drifted off their own way home at their leisure.
Great to see some stunning machinery being brought out of the sheds and enjoyed by their owners. I hope everyone enjoyed the day and as usual we are always open to suggestions for improvement or to include any new ideas to add to the enjoyment of the ride.
What we do need is more old and or smaller capacity bikes to come along. A change of criteria for next year will be the smallest or oldest bike you have available to ride.
